Sholingur Temple
The Sholingur Temple, or Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple, is a prominent pilgrimage site located in Tamil Nadu and one of the 108 Divya Desams, revered in Vaishnavite tradition. Dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and Sri Yoga Anjaneya Swamy (Hanuman), the temple is situated on two sacred hills: Periya Malai (big hill) and Chinna Malai (small hill). Devotees climb 1,300 steps to reach the main sanctum atop Periya Malai, where Lord Narasimha is depicted in a unique meditative posture. Chinna Malai, with 400 steps, houses the Hanuman shrine. Steeped in mythology, the temple is believed to be the place where Lord Narasimha meditated after vanquishing Hiranyakashipu, and meditating here for 24 minutes (one ghadi) is said to grant immense spiritual benefits. The temple’s architecture reflects the Dravidian style, with intricately carved gopurams and panoramic views from the hilltop. Festivals like Narasimha Jayanti and Brahmotsavam attract thousands of devotees annually. The Pushkarini, a sacred tank at the base, is believed to purify sins. Easily accessible from Chennai (110 km), the temple offers a tranquil atmosphere, combining spirituality with breathtaking natural beauty, making it a must-visit for pilgrims and travelers alike.
